Why Our Work Matters

The people we support face overlapping challenges — mental health difficulties, poverty, trauma, isolation, digital exclusion, and migration‑related stress. These pressures create barriers that mainstream services often cannot meet.

Across the communities we work with in the UK:

These realities shape the type of support people need — flexible, culturally aware, and grounded in lived experience.

The Gambia

– One of the highest irregular migration rates per capita in West Africa
– Youth unemployment above 60%
– 1 in 3 households lives below the poverty line
– Thousands attempt the “backway” route each year
– Many migrants passing through The Gambia originate from Guinea‑Bissau

Guinea‑ Bissau

– Over 67% of the population lives in poverty
– Youth unemployment above 50%
– Ranked among the lowest countries on the Human Development Index
– Limited access to healthcare, education, and stable income
– Many young people travel through The Gambia to reach smuggling routes

Our Service

Explore our community‑based support to learn more about what we do and how we support people.

When someone arrives overwhelmed or isolated, we offer a space where they can breathe again.
Through emotional support, wellbeing sessions, and confidence‑building mentoring, people begin to feel grounded, understood, and safe.
For many our safe spaces are the first place they have ever felt truly heard and supported.

We offer a specialist service that can support the NHS and local health teams to better reach, understand, and involve diverse communities.

Our service includes:
– Community engagement — building meaningful connections, facilitating conversations, and increasing involvement from communities who are often under‑represented in health services.
– Co‑production — working alongside individuals, families, and community groups to co‑design solutions that reflect lived experience, cultural needs, and real challenges.
– Health inequality outreach — delivering targeted, culturally‑competent outreach to groups facing the greatest barriers, including migrants, refugees, ethnic minority families, and low‑income households.

This service can support the NHS and other health providers to improve access, reduce health inequalities, and create more inclusive and responsive care for the communities they serve.

Many of the people we support are facing systems that feel impossible to navigate alone.
We walk beside them — helping with welfare support, housing issues, NHS referrals, employment pathway, complaints and appeals, and digital access.
This isn’t just paperwork — it’s restoring dignity, rights, and stability.

When a family has no food, no hygiene items, or no baby essentials, wellbeing becomes impossible.
We provide food support, hygiene items, baby essentials, clothing, and household basics — as a bridge back to stability and hope.

Isolation is one of the biggest silent struggles in our communities.
Through community activities, outdoor wellbeing, group sessions, and social prescribing pathways, people rebuild confidence, friendships, and belonging.
These moments of connection often become the turning point in someone’s journey.

Many people want to move forward but lack the tools.
We support them with digital skills, language support, life skills, confidence‑building, and learning bussiness pathways — helping them take the next step toward independence and opportunity.

The same pressures driving migration in The Gambia and Guinea‑Bissau show up in the stories of the people we support here.
So our work extends across borders — offering small business development, income‑generating opportunities, skills training, community projects, ethical product selling, and field delivery partnerships.
This helps people build a future where they are, instead of risking their lives to leave.

Every product we help sell — teas, powders, handmade shoes, jewellery, clothing — represents a person who can now support their family without taking the “backway”.
It is dignity, not dependency.
